Challenge match versus Bruntsfield Short Hole at Leith Links - 9th July 2009

"For a memorable golfing experience using traditional hickory clubs, come to Leith Links and play on the very turf where golf's earliest rules were written"

History was made when the Society managed to defeat Bruntsfield Short Hole for the first time at Leith Links in the annual challenge match, by 2½ - 1½.

As well as our main sponsors, we are indebted to Bruce Stevenson for their assistance with our events

... and also to Leith Franklin Academicals Cricket Club and Winterfield Golf Course for their assistance in setting up our 5-hole course

For the Society, Lionel Freedman and Robin Morris defeated Jimmy Robertson and William Wright, as did Martin Fletcher and Brian Graham over Gordon Cochrane and Graeme Macdonald, whilst David and Jim Maguire halved with Ian Hislop and Fraser Gordon. For our visitors, Steven Doyle and Paul Middleton defeated Alastair Chalmers and Eugene Bradley.

We now look forward to the return match at Bruntsfield on July 23rd, when we are sure our friends will be keen to exact their revenge, in a most charming and sportsmanlike manner of course !
