Stage play will feature our history !
Through funding by The Heritage Lottery Fund (Sportscotland section), one of our committee members has been commissioned to write a play featuring the creation of the first rules in 1744.

Members and friends gathered at Leith Franklin Academicals Cricket Club on Monday 29th October to hear details of LRGS “Awards for All” grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Joining the Press and members of the Society were representatives of the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers (Muirfield), the World Hickory Open Championship, local golf historians and East Lothian Council golf development.

Special mention to our oldest member, 99-year old Dan Orr, who we were delighted to welcome to the launch

We have received £6,450 funding towards the development and production of the play. Well known Golf Historian, Philip Knowles, presented the award certificate to President Douglas Foulis.

Author, Lorna Moon, outlined why she is excited about this project; she has several themes and ideas already developing and plans to work on this first special project for Leith Rules Golf Society over the winter months. Leitheatre Drama Club have generously offered to enact parts as they are written and we hope the play will be  performed at the Leith (and Edinburgh) Festivals in the next 2 years.

The project has even made the press back in Lorna's home "across the pond"; click here for more information, even though they have the link to our own website wrong!

The Society was indebted to Cornelius Waugh who arranged for use of the Cricket Club and provided catering.
